Štěpánka Balcarová, jazz trumpet
Štěpánka Balcarová is a Czech trumpeter, composer and conductor. In 2012, she completed a master's degree in jazz trumpet at the prestigious Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. She later studied jazz composition and arranging in Graz under the guidance of renowned composer and bandleader Ed Partyka. She currently lives in Prague, where she works as a teacher at the Jazz Department of the Czech Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory and College of Music. Štěpánka Balcarová is the bandleader of several musical projects. These include the jazz big band Concept Art Orchestra, a septet with Polish singer Małgorzata Hutek, and a newly formed Czech-Polish quartet. She also works in Petr Kořínek's Trialog and occasionally collaborates with other prominent players on the Czech and foreign jazz scene. Since 2019, she has been preparing the music program Jazzový podvečer for Czech Radio, which listeners can hear every fourth Sunday of the month from 6:00 PM on the Vltava station. She has been awarded for her playing and composing skills at many jazz competitions in the past.
