Gabriela Vermelho, performar

Gabriela Vermelho

Gabriela Vermelho is a Czech violinist, singer, composer and performer whose work moves across the boundaries of classical music, alternative genres and original creation. Her artistic approach combines diverse musical styles, including the use of the quintone, voice improvisation and electronics.
She studied at the P. J. Vejvanovský Conservatory in Kroměříž and at University of Ostrava, where she specialized in violin under the guidance of Zdeněk Gola.
Throughout her career, she has performed with numerous orchestras and ensembles and has also been active in theatre productions. In 2005, she received the Talent of the Year award at the Alfréd Radok Awards for her role of Eva the witch in the production of Ballad for a Bandit.
With the band Maraca, she was nominated for the Anděl Awards. She was also a member of Zimbova, whose repertoire draws on Moravian and Slovak folk traditions. She is the primarius of the string quartet Gadrew Way.
In 2013, she founded her own project GaRe, focusing exclusively on original music. She collaborates with leading Czech composers such as Ivo Medek, Markéta Dvořáková, Michael Nejtek and Petr Wajsar, who create new works for her combining voice and quintone.
Among her notable projects is a joint recital with the Pavel Haas Quartet at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg (2018), as well as a performance of Mahler songs in a special arrangement by herself and Tomáš Ille for voice, quintone and electronics, performed with guitarist David Dorůžka and a symphony orchestra (2020).
As a composer, she creates music for theatre (e.g. Švandovo Theatre, Studio DVA), dance and ballet productions (F. X. Šalda Theatre, J. K. Tyl Theatre), as well as film and documentary projects.
In recent years, she has increasingly focused on teaching and improvisation.
Her specialization lies in free, authentic and physically relaxed vocal expression.
